What are the Chakras
Many of you may be wondering what the heck is a chakra. You have heard the word, but do not know what all the buzz is about.
I remember having the same thought when I first discovered chakras years ago. So, in order to educate myself, I did some research to learn more and I will summarize for you what I found out.
Before we start on the chakras, we should talk a little bit about some energetic basics.
Energetic Basics –
The entire universe is made up of energy, this is a scientific fact (google is amazing in case you want to fact check). Because of this, it should come as no surprise that your body is made up of energy as well.
It is also a long-known fact that all living things carry a life force energy (once again, thank you google!). This life force energy is called many names such as the prana, chi, or the divine spark to name a few examples.
Here is where the chakras come in.
According to Sanskrit teachings (Sanskrit is a over 4,000 year old language), there are seven energy centers within each of us called chakras. The Sanskrit word for chakra literally means wheel.
Let me break down how this wheel system works… As our life force energy moves within us and through us, it spins and rotates as it moves through the energy centers or chakras. Boom! Simple right? Umm, ya, not really, but keep reading.
So, the chakras start at the base of our spine and move to the top of our head. When we are healthy and balanced the seven chakras provide exactly the right amount of energy to every part of our mind, body, and spirit. When our chakras are out of balance our health suffers as our energy can become stuck or stagnant. I promise to talk more about this later.
As a brief overview, below is where they are located and the color of the seven chakras…
The Root Chakra- lies at the base of your spine, is associated with the color red, and oversees grounding and our survival instincts.
The Sacral Chakra-Lies between the base of your spine, is associated with the color orange, and oversees intuition, sexuality, and self-worth.
The Solar Plexus Chakra-lies at your navel, is associated with the color yellow, and oversees ego and impulse control.
The Heart Chakra-lies between your breasts, is associated with the color green, and oversees spirituality and compassion.
The Throat Chakra-lies at your throat, is associated with the color blue, and oversees emotions and communication.
The Third Eye Chakra-lies just above and between your eyes, is associated with the color indigo, and oversees imagination, rationality, and wisdom.
The Crown Chakra-lies at the top of your head, is associated with the color white, and is seen as a gateway to connect with God.
So, now that you know some of the basics about the 7 chakras, let me tell you how the chakras being out of balance can affect you.
Do you ever just feel off, like something is just not right. Maybe your intuition is gone or not working like it used to? I had these feeling several years ago. I was going through a really hard time and was not able to get over my feelings of anxiety and sadness. To add fuel to the fire, I was not taking care of myself. I went to see someone who balances chakras and after one energy session, I began to feel more like myself again. After 2 energy sessions, my anxiety and depression almost nonexistent. I was able to see the forest through the trees as they say.
My dramatic results may not be what happens for everyone, but if my story resonates with you, then there is help out there for you.
There are various ways to work with and bring the chakras back to balance. A couple of examples of chakra healing are…
You can do vocal toning.
You can eat the foods that heal each of the chakras (sorry, wine and chocolate are not 2 of the foods. I know, I tried!).
You can wear crystals and colors to bring healing and balance to the chakra.
You can see a person who is trained to bring balance to the chakras such as myself.
Now that you know a little about the chakras, I challenge you to pay attention to how you feel. If you are feeling out of balance, what harm can come from trying one of the healing techniques.
I know from personal experience that once you feel in balance, it is hard to go back to being out of it.
