The Sacral Chakra

Have you ever felt like you are in a creativity shut down? Have you ever felt like you are in a sexual funk? Or the opposite, so you have increased libido? Do you feel an addictive pull? Such as wanting to drink more than usual, smoke more than usual, or any of the other vices that you might have (let’s be honest, we all have them)?

If you are suffering from any of these feelings more intensely than usual, your sacral or second chakra may be unbalanced. When your sacra chakra is unbalanced, it can mean that you are working through some creativity or sexual feelings.

Does any of this resonate with you?

It certainly did for me!

I had signed up to teach a meditation class. Now I know a lot of you might be thinking, what in the heck does teaching a class have to do with any of the issues associated with the sacral chakra? I can tell you it was not a sexual meditation class (I wonder if anything like that even exists? Note to self, I have fact check that with google) but I did need inspiration and creativity to teach the class. Well, any inspiration or creativity I had suddenly vanished. I was feeling so creatively blocked and my 1stclass deadline was quickly approaching. I had to figure out quick what was wrong. It dawned on me that my sacral chakra was blocked.

Before we get into the meat and potatoes of how to unblock that 2ndchakra, lets talk a bit more about it. The Svadhisthana, or sacral chakra in Sanskrit, means your own place. It is located about three inches below the navel, at the center of your lower belly and is associated with the color orange. It is symbolized as a circle with 6 petals with a crescent moon as shown in the picture at the top of this page.

The sacral chakra is associated and oversees the following functions and behavioristics…

·       Creativity

·       Expression of sexuality, sensual pleasure

·       Fantasies

·       Addictions

·       Relationships

As with my story above, the sacral chakra can become blocked or out of balance. When this happens, it can be very difficult for us to express ourselves creatively or to have balanced relationships. Our fears can emotionally manifest in any of the following ways…

  • Dependency issues, co-dependency with people or pleasurable substances

  • Ruled by or numb to emotions

  • Overindulgence in fantasies and or sexual obsessions

  • Lack of sexual desire and creativity

  • Feeling blocked emotionally or creatively

I think that we would all agree that an imbalanced sacral chakra does not sound like a good time. That said, many of us suffer in these states without knowing there are solutions. There are many ways that you can bring balance back to the sacral chakra. Some of the examples are…

  • Eating orange colored foods (such as oranges, melons, etc.)

  • Working on and talking about sex and sexuality with a partner, friend, or professional

  • Wearing the color orange

  • Working with an energy healer to bring balance to the chakras

While an unbalanced sacral chakra is not a good time, a balanced one can be a freeing feeling. You will come to know your relationship with yourself better and be able to create all of the things in life that you want.
